New Student Advising & Registration
Welcome to Eastern Kentucky University!
During the Advising and Registration process, academic advisors will connect with you to build your first semester of classes schedule. EKU staff will contact students who have scheduled a New Student Orientation date with details about registration.
A Pre-Advising Survey will be sent via email in advance of your New Student Orientation date. Your responses provide the advisor the opportunity to pre-register you for classes you will need to take during your first semester. The advisor will work with you directly to get you registered for all the appropriate classes. The advisor will communicate with you via your EKU email account. Please check your EKU email regularly so you don’t miss important communications. Once your schedule has been built, you will be able to see it in EKU Direct.
Academic advising is an opportunity to work one-on-one with an academic advisor in the major you have declared. You will learn about classes important to your major, General Education, and potential electives. Together, you will craft a class schedule that balances requirements with general courses of interest. Advising staff will be available this summer to answer questions and assist with any schedule adjustments. Advisors are available to meet with you one-on-one by email, phone, or video conference to answer any questions you may have about your schedule or your major. Check your email regularly for follow-up communication after your orientation date.
Step 1: Sign up for Orientation
Step 2: Activate EKU Email in EKU Direct (login information here).
Step 3: Complete the Pre-Advising Survey. The Pre-Advising Survey will be sent to your email approximately 4 weeks prior to your Orientation date. It will be used by an academic advisor to build your class schedule.
Step 4: Login to EKU Direct and Confirm your class schedule on the New Student Orientation Menu. Once your schedule is made you will be emailed providing instructions on how to Confirm your schedule/enrollment.
